Oomph of Maxi Dresses

A post after a long time. The break was partially because of a complete writer/idea block and trying to cope with the workload. I cannot blog if I have several pending deadlines and timelines dangling over me. So here comes one about the dresses - the Maxi dresses in particular.

These dresses have always fascinated me. One can wear them on so many occassions and at so many places, and you can never look out of place or wrong. Also, women of all sizes can carry these off with the right patterns and cuts. Our country has now started opening up to having these on the market. You find them at stores such as Forever 21, howeever, they are still among the casual wear out here. To get a good formal evening wear, I guess, a good seamstress is needed to do the trick. So here are a few pictures of the ones I thought are worth a peep...

Monsoons have set in here. The denims go back into the shelves as commuting in them in this weather is not practical and drying them out is such a pain. Plus the humidity makes the denim cling and stick to your skin which is so not funny. I loved these dresses for that lovely rainy weather in your city, where you walk out looking as pretty as can be :)

The above definitely do not classify as the typical Maxi dress. But I thought these dresses were worth a mention for our kind of downpours and humid weathers. The two dresses are in contrast...while the safari dress adds to the subtlety of our Indian colors, the yellow one attempts to break open the surrounding into one vibrant canvas.

Now for the maxi dresses....
Simple floral print halterneck dress

For that evening, where you must have to make a statement - the long-sleeved, Backless dress

One of the prettiest of patterns that just sits well on any frame - a layered chiffon dress

The dramatic one - An 'A' line that contibutes to the silhouette, with a drama of colors in the pattern itself

The perfect colour - for the most casual of days

The elegant one - white, pristine as ever, standing tall with a slit at the right length for those toned up legs

As much as I love some of the ready-made dresses available, I have started searching for a seamstress to give me the right evening dress. Dresses are elegant and bring out the beauty of a woman like no other. A famous quote by Mae West, seals the deal on this one, "Say what you want about long dresses, but they cover a multitude of shins." ;)

In Wine there is Wisdom

Caudalie Mathilde Thomas - French born Entreprenuer - is the cofounder (with her husband, Bertrand) of luxe skin-care line. She has perhaps the most beautiful inspiration board on earth: her parents' Chateau Smith Haute Lafitte Vineyard. The 600 year old winery in Bordeaux, France, is home to the original Caudalie spa - a chic aerie above a picturesque outdoor pool - where many of the company's products are used as treatments. Caudalie has been steadily discovering new ways that ingredients derived from grapes can beautify the skin.

So we have one more reason to keep that wine bottle near us....wonder when wine treatments will be introduced in our country.

The Royal Family steps out in Indian Jewels

The Duchess of Cambridge - Kate Middleton glittered in the diamond necklace loaned to her by the Queen, as she stepped out for the Black-tie function at the National Portrait Gallery. The jewellery created buzz with it's shine and shimmer as she carried of the Queen's Nizam of Hyderabad diamond necklace.

For those uninformed, the necklace was a wedding gift for the then-Princess Elizabeth. The "Artemisia's Royal Jewels blog" states that "one of the most beautiful gifts came from the Nizam of Hyderabad. The Nizam was the owner of one of the most celebrated and largest private jewellery collections in the world, and his gift was suitably impressive - a demi-parure of a tiara and necklace. The necklace was purchased from Cartier. Actually in a way it was acquired by Elizabeth herself. The Nizam wasn't in London at the time and left Cartier instructions that the princess will personally choose her present."

Inidan stones and jewels make their mark among one of the world's most powerful family once again. Kate, always represents her fashion in her simple yet elegant ways of dressing - for this evening, she had teamed the diamonds with an inky-blue gown. However, the jewels created the most chatter among local and international media.
